A sneak peak at Topshop’s Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection!
Now I have to admit I have been shopping at Topshop for years – I feel like their number one fan and they never cease to amaze me with their array of amazing clothes, accessories and shoes! I always get excited when I step into one of the stores – going off into my own little Topshop world! So imagine how I felt when I set my eyes on the Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection! Just one word really to sum it up – wow! Topshop have seriously outdone themselves this time!
Spilt into three parts – The Outsiders, Dark Nouveau and Out of the Wild – this Autumn/Winter Collection has a definite strong British vibe to it with an array of gorgeous sophisticated pieces mixed in with the more daring items.
‘The Outsiders’ has a real modern feel as it takes the best of Britain’s heritage and deconstructs them. Unexpected shapes are mixed with traditional fabrics such as worsted, plaid, tweed and dense melton and are given a chic twist in the cut or detailing. Inspiration has been taken from hunting, shooting and fishing which gives the collection an English countryside feel as elements of these sports are spread throughout the pieces. Look out for Barbour jackets, parkas with fake fur collars and trims, oversized knits and capes! Oh I’m getting excited already! And who can forget the accessories! Team one of the boyfriend style jumpers with thermal leggings, chunky socks and a waxed fabric bag for the ultimate winter outfit!

So from the English countryside we return to the dark ages. ‘Dark Nouveau’ is the second part to Topshop’s Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection which is full of heavily embellished items such as cobweb knits whilst jersey tops and dresses feature dramatic chain draping. The clothing kind of makes me think of King Arthur and the whole sword in the stone story as leather is a key fabric and is often decorated with hand-crafted, heavily encrusted studwork. Inspiration was taken from the fairytales of The Art Nouveau movement and mixed with Beardsley’s illustrations for Oscar Wilde and the Banshees created by Neville Page for Avatar. Strapping and harnessing touches are featured on the footwear making sure you are prepared for battle… I mean daily outings!

The third part of the magnificent collection will have you thrown into a post-apocalyptic world! ‘Out of the Wild’ will have you sporting bondage-style strappings, dishevelled fabrics and patchwork. Fake furs, leathers and textured knitwear are all key pieces for this trend (and hot for this coming winter!) which are mixed in with the more feminine elements such as diamante sparkles which can be found on the nude mesh leggings and cardigans. I love the chunky tasselled scarves which are perfect at creating boho chic looks. Team them with chunky boots with multiple straps and one of the jersey dresses to prepare for the cold, rainy weather which I’m sure England will experience!

Now from what I’ve seen there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of colour in this collection. The clothes seem to give off that moody, sultry vibe though with the use of more neutral shades. Which personally I love as I don’t really wear that much colour anyway… Thumbs up to Topshop’s Autumn/Winter 2010 range!
