Our Take on the Dungaree Trend

All us girls must remember wearing them at some point in our childhood.  Back then though we might of thought of them as unstylish or ghastly.  Times have changed though as Spring/Summer 2010 sees the return of the dungarees – and they are hotter and sexier then ever!

I personally have a soft spot for this garment and it seems I’m not the only one.  Celebrities such as Demi Moore, Helena Christensen and Lily Allen have all jumped on board the dungarees trend.  From a denim style by Ralph Lauren to a silk crepe pair by Roland Mouret, or a feminine printed silk style by Roberto Cavalli to a sexy corseted number by Jean Paul Gaultier.  These days there are so many types to choose from.  Dungarees have come a long way as originally they were only workmen’s clothes and were first worn by women during the Second World War.

If designer dungarees are slightly out of your price range, then why not wear a pair from the high street from stores such as Oasis and H&M – affordable yet uber stylish.

More suited for the younger generation the key to pulling off the dungaree trend is to accessorise!  Style up daytime denim styles with a short sleeve floral silky blouse or a plain coloured t-shirt then complete the look with a pair of wedges, statement earrings and a slouchy tote.  Utter perfection!  For evening style dungarees, like the corseted number, wear with a long sleeved silky shirt and killer heels.  Play around with accessories like bangles and clutches to create sophisticated glamorous looks.

A few other items to wear with your dungarees are sheer fitted tank tops, exaggerated shoulder or long sleeved graphic print tops and open toe shoe boots.  You could even add a classic twist to a denim pair by sporting a trilby or a wide sweeping brimmed hat.  The possibilities are endless!
